Iași was the capital of historical region of Moldavia between 1564 and 1859, one of the two capitals of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia between 1859 and 1862 and the capital of the Kingdom of Romania between 1916 and 1918 (during the First World War, when Bucharest was under German occupation).
Home to the oldest Romanian university and to the first engineering school, Iași is one of the most important education and research centers of the country. Also, the Botanical Garden is the oldest and largest botanical garden in Romania. The Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre and the Central University Library, are the oldest in Romania, too. In Iași was founded the first University of Medicine and the first Natural History Museum in Romania.
❄️ Yesterday, the city was covered with snow.
